We are beginning the implementation of another Polish-Georgian project. Together with the Rustaveli National Theatre in Tbilisi and the Polish Institute in Tbilisi, we are organizing Gombrowicz workshops as part of the task “Witold Gombrowicz – Imaginarium New World”. Our Foundation has asked Ms. Keti Kantaria, the translator of Witold Gombrowicz’s works, to translate “The Marriage” into Georgian. The workshops, which will take place on October 2nd and 3rd, 2024, are aimed at directors, actors, and set designers, and will be conducted by masters of Polish theatre who have numerous Gombrowicz productions to their credit: Mikołaj Grabowski and Paweł Dobrzycki.
Our activities are supported by the Young Ambassador of Georgia in Poland, Mr. Tornike Tsirekidze.
The project is under the media patronage of the magazine “Teatr“.
The project is co-financed by the 2nd Open Competition of the Juliusz Mieroszewski Centre.
On October 2nd and 3rd, 2024, Gombrowicz workshops took place at the Rustaveli National Theatre in Tbilisi as part of the project “Witold Gombrowicz – Imaginarium of the New World.” Directing students from the Tbilisi Theatre and Film Academy prepared scenes from Witold Gombrowicz’s The Marriage, translated for us by Ms. Keti Kantaria. The work of the young Georgian artists was overseen by two Polish masters: Mikołaj Grabowski and Paweł Dobrzycki. It is worth mentioning that Gombrowicz’s plays had never before appeared on Georgian stages. This was the first time that Georgian theatre engaged with the work of the Polish classic. We were delighted by the high level of performance presented by our Georgian colleagues.
Paweł Dobrzycki led a workshop for scenography students from the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts, who participated in the theatrical presentations by sketching their own costume designs and proposing scenographic solutions. The students then organized an exhibition of their works in the foyer to present their artistic ideas for The Marriage to the directors and actors. We are working towards producing a premiere of Witold Gombrowicz’s The Marriage in the theatre.
